1 Radial-medial crossvein r-m at or before middle of dical cell. 2
- Radial-medial crossvein r-m beyond middle of dical cell. 3

2 Hypandrium (sternite 9) with a long pencil of dense white hairs at apex. Female tergite 8 with fine white hairs. Radial-medial crossvein r-m at, male 0.5, female 0.46, length of discal cell. Length 12-19 mm . . . . . Proctacanthella cacopiloga (Hine, 1909) [TX, KS, NJ, IL, OK, NE, MT, ND, SD, WY, CO, NM, AR, CO, UT, IN, ALB, MAN, SKW]
- Hypandrium with short sparse white hairs which are longer on the apical margin. Female tergite 8 with fine erect yellowish hairs. Radial-medial crossvein r-m at, male 0.46, female 0.43, length of discal cell. Length 15-24 mm . . . . . Proctacanthella wilcoxi Bromley, 1935 [TX, OK?]

3 Postocular (occipital) bristles lagely and scutellar bristles in part, black. Femora largely black, female fore and middle femora reddish at base and apex. Radial-medial crossvein r-m at, male 0.62, female 0.61, length of discal cell. Length 18-23 mm . . . . . Proctacanthella robusta Bromley, 1951 [TX, MEX]]
- Postocular (occipital) bristles and scutellar bristles all white. 4

4 Abdomen yellowish gray pollinose with a narrow dorsal stripe brown, most prominent on segments 2-5. Hypandrium with a fan of white hairs on either side near the middle. Female tergite 8 with numerous short, stout white hairs. Radial-medial crossvein r-m at, male 0.59, female 0.56, length of discal cell. Length 18-26 mm . . . . . Proctacanthella exquisita (Osten-Sacken, 1887) [AZ, CO, OK, NM, UT?, MEX]]
- Abdomen uniformely pollinose or the segments brownish with gray margins. 5

5 Abdomen wholly grayish white pollinose. Mystax extending nearly to antennae. Style 2.5 times length of postpedicel. Radial-medial crossvein r-m at, male 0.63, female 0.62, length of discal cell. Length 11-16 mm . . . . . Proctacanthella tolandi Wilcox, 1965 [CA, AZ, MEX?]
